The phenomenon that has been Fifty Shades of Grey is readying itself for a new lease of life with the movie set for release on Valentine’s Day next month.
Thus far, the screen adaptation of E. L. James’ trilogy has not sonically disappointed, with teasers and trailers featuring an exclusive version of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’, and more recently the very sexy ‘Haunted’. With the bar set high, a star studded, smooth vocalled, sexy, sophisticated and somewhat racey soundtrack is to be expected. Enter, The Weeknd.
The first track to be released from the album, ‘Earned It’ is on repeat, and seemingly not just for us. The track has just earned the Canadian his highest charting single to date debuting at #15 in the R&B/Hip Hop Billboard chart. A movie soundtrack may seem like a strange move for those of you who are well aware of The Weeknd’s music; he’s better known for his mysterious, lofty coolness. In fairness, ‘Earned It’ doesn’t compromise him, striking a nice balance of sultry/moody.
Other confirmed names include Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora (who plays Christian’s sister Mia in the movie) but on the whole, the tracklist is being kept under wraps. The full soundtrack is released through Republic Records on February 10th, just three days before the movie hits auditoriums around the world.
