Does sticking to a release date matter anymore?
Kendrick Lamar doesn’t seem to think so, releasing his album a week earlier than planned, and off the back of genuine anticipation of his artistry, as opposed to promotional hype. We’ve been playing it in the CRAVE office… not what we expected! In a good way of course, Mr. Lamar…
It’s jazzy, it’s funky, it’s soulful – it’s from an artist that has grown since the classic (and arguably, hip hop re-defining) ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d city’ came out in 2012.
And another thing! It’s a proper album, aside from “i” (nice re-fix btw) there aren’t any of what you might call ‘singles’, you’ve got to indulge yourself in the entire album to appreciate it… a lot like J.Cole’s 2014 ‘Forest Hills Drive’.
Maybe the game is about to change like it did in 2012? Have a listen!
