Monday 20th October, fashion bids a warm farewell to well loved Dominican born designer, Oscar de la Renta. Respected for his elegance and craftsmanship, here was a man who knew a thing or two about fashion. Starting his career on an internship with Spanish legendary designer Cristobal Balenciaga, he sky-rocketed to the world stage when, then first lady, Jackie Kennedy made him her go-to stylist. In the following fifty years, de la Renta dressed the who’s who of famous women – from a line of first ladies including Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama, to more recently, Amal Alamuddin (aka. Mrs George Clooney).
A man whose absolute objective was to have women looking and feeling beautiful, with a true understanding of sophistication, femininity and grace, we revisit some of our favourite Oscar de la Renta wonders.

If our mother’s-in-law were Anna Wintour, we too would have called in a favour from her close friend Oscar for this exquisite number.
Anne Hathaway, 2010
A beautiful scarlet design for rather a glamorous Hathaway + Wintour + Testino Vogue shoot. What can you really say? The man knew how to create a spectacular gown. For first ladies, royalty, pop-icons and Hollywood A listers alike.
Cameron Diaz, 2010

One of Oprah Winfrey’s most regal and elegant style moments, she was accompanied by Oscar to the 2010 Met Gala.

The dress version of Ferrero Raffaello chocolates… in a good way. (And also because we love Sandra Bullock).
