‘When I draw or paint, the world becomes translucent and fluid. Like the tale of Alice, but I am not a lost girl, I am the dark wanderer over rooftops, sliding into your dreams…’
The Dutch artist Martine Johanna has recently caught our eye with her beautifully ethereal oil paintings.
Beginning her career as a successful women’s wear designer, Martine cut loose the restraints of the corporate mentality, which she found so binding, to become a full-time artist. She now spends her days exploring her creativity by examining her own morals, beliefs and even sanity.
Her work often borders on surreal as she delves into subjects such as myths, superstition and morality. This along with her use of colour and intricate techniques makes her work truly spectacular and thoroughly engaging.
